Jara's village

Volleyball is a popular activity in the village.

This is Debi, the new mum, holding Gracie, her first child. Debi used to work at Lapilo centre and NCA. She did gardening and cleaned the girls' bathrooms.

Gracie was just a week old when we visited. A new mum can't prepare food for two weeks, so she lives with a family for that time and they look after her and the baby.

The trail to Jara's village

Once we crossed the river we walked along a trail that took us by gardens. It only takes about 20 minutes to get to Jara's village from Lapilo centre but it is a whole world away!

This is looking back across the river to the Lapilo side. For the local people they go back and forth many times a day.

Visit to Jara's village

While Andrew was visiting in May/June we went over to Jara's village, Helisaro to visit and to see a new baby. Helisaro is across the river. This is the view from the Lapilo side of the river to a small island in the river. To the right of the picture is the main part of the river.

Once school is out there is a great exodus from Lapilo centre as people go on furlough, holidays or return home for good having finished their time in PNG. This is the parking lot at the Goroka airport.

grad 2007

The new grade 12 class!! After the ceremony it is traditional to take pictures of the classes as they have officially moved up! It is hard to believe Matt is now in grade 12!

After the ceremony, the graduates change into nice clothes and then have a receiving line to greet the guests followed by a special meal with their parents. After that is an all night after grad party for the high school kids.
